Virtual Camporee

Calling all scouts! Calling all scouts! It’s time to go camping! But wait, in social distancing, how do we do that? Well I have the answer for you! Cradle of Liberty Council is hosting a Virtual Camporee the weekend of May 15th-16th. Join us in camping in your backyard, or in your living room, just keep the smelly socks upstairs!

There will be a multitude of activities for cub scouts, older scouts, as well as adults and leaders. If you have a sibling that’s not a scout, let them join in the fun and try to recruit them. Here’s a little info on how this will work.

  • Friday Night at 7pm there will be an opening campfire hosted by the COL Venturing Officer’s Association (you may see some familiar faces performing!)
  • You can view the campfire as well as the opening colors (flag ceremony) at 8:30am, as a livestream on the council’s facebook.
  • Go to the Camporee website to see the day’s schedule
  • Click on the classes you wish to be apart of, register (for free!) in order to get sent the link for the zoom rooms!
  • During second period, at 10am, join myself, Ms. Avery, in a cub scout cooking class! I would love to see my 1776 scouts there, I miss you guys!
  • A parent guardian can send pictures to the Cub Scout Facebook page, or email the leaders, with permission to share on our Facebook. We want to showcase the scouts participating!
  • Closing scout’s own will be at 4pm, livestreamed on Facebook.
  • You do not need a Facebook account to view the live, just click the link above. You do not need a zoom account to participate, just click the link you get after registering.

I hope to see a bunch of the 1776 scouts at the camporee, if you have any questions, you can reach me at asytsma@cubscoutpack1776.org.

Our Wolves are almost Bears!!

WooHoo !!  We are almost at the end! Our Wolves are SO close to advancement and we cannot wait to greet them again in person as Bears and give them their belt loops and new Badge. We are zooming meetings and assigning “homework” to get them through. This week, wolves must camp out overnight in the yard or in the house, packing as for a regular camping trip.  Make your lists! Don’t forget anything! If you forget it on a trip, you can’t go run and get it so you can’t on this trip either!!  Make sure you entertain your family with a skit or song!

we also have participated in a flag folding ceremony via video instruction and discussion, snd watched a video and learned about campfire safety and held a discussion about a situation/change in our community.  We chose the virus and schooling from home and the rules we must follow.  There is no doubt the Wolves get it and are educated on the situation and are doing what they are supposed to.  It got them thinking about ways to get through this and that’s a win!

Over the next 2 weeks we will be wrapping up our program with more instruction to conclude their adventures for the year.  We will keep in touch and plan for summer as best we can and we CANNOT WAIT to see all of  your smiling faces again!

Sittin’ Around the Virtual Campfire…

Hello 1776 Cub Scouts! Tonight at 7pm, join us at the Cradle of Liberty Virtual Campfire. Scouts and Scouters from across the council will be livestreaming a campfire performance for all to enjoy. Our very own Bear leader, Miss Avery will be singing! So grab your snacks, your camp chair, and your scout spirit and sing along with us.

It will be livestreamed on the council Facebook page. Here’s the link to the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/146757846735326/

Scouting for the rest of the year

Our lives have been completely turned upside down this past month and we just want you to know “we are all in this together” isn’t just a saying for us. We are a pack. We are a family.  We will support one another in good times and in bad times. Along with schooling and everything else, our scouting year has been disrupted and we have no real timeline for when activities and meetings will resume, but this doesn’t mean scouting has to cease. In fact, our leaders recently met via video chat and we have some really great and innovative ways to continue our program remotely, which we will be sharing after the holiday. In the meantime, enjoy your Easter and Passover with your families. Please count your blessings during these hard and scary times and know we are always here – isolation is hard. Home schooling is hard. And life itself is hard enough even without a pandemic- if you need anything, could use some advice or help with school or just need to hear a friendly voice- we are all just an email or phone call away! We miss you and wish you continued good health!

HAPPY EASTER

From all of us at Cub Scout Pack 1776 to you- Have a happy, safe, healthy and blessed Easter holiday!

Hoping all are well and summer camp

REV UP YOUR ENGINES!!!

PINEWOOD DERBY IS FINALLY HERE!! Woo hoo!! Get those race cars painted and fine tuned because Saturday WE RACE! That’s right! This Saturday, March 7 at Saints United Gym we are all gathering at 10:00 AM for the fun filled EXCITING  down to the last second hold your breath racing event of the year! At least for scouts 😁😁. This event lasts a few hours so bring a snack and a drink (covered containers only please) and your cheering voices. Remember, we want to win, but we also want to be happy for everyone else. So, do your best and support your pack members, too! ***please come in uniform if you can!
DETAILS OF THE DAY

  • ARRIVAL TIME 10:00 AM  At this time we weigh and register your cars. Any cars found to be overweight or too wide may be altered and re-checked and registered so long as changes can be made before registration closes.
Once registered, the cars are entered into the computer and MAY NOT BE TOUCHED AGAIN BY ANYONE until the race begins. Doing so may also result in disqualification.
Cars are placed on display until the race starts so everyone can see all of the cool designs 🚖🚘

  • REGISTRATION CLOSES BEFORE 10:50 AM. So, to be safe, don’t be late.  We want to see your smiling faces promptly at 10:00 AM🙂☺️😊😀😃😄

  • FAILURE TO REGISTER BEFORE 10:50 AM DEADLINE MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.  We hate to have to do this, but we have specific BSA Pinewood Derby guidelines to follow and the computer needs time to calibrate the information which is sent to the electronic track. Please don’t be late!

  • THE FIRST RACE BEGINS PROMPTLY AT 11:15 AM.  Please understand this event is run in heats and therefore lasts a few hours and we rent the track. That means if we are late starting, we are late ending, and the people coming for the track after the race will be held up and that’s not very scoutlike of us to not be courteous to them!

  • EXPECT LOTS OF CHEERS AND GROANS AND LAUGHING so bring your happy face whether you come in first or last!
    YES:  😁🤗🤪😊😃
    NO:☹️😢😭😤😠😡

SEE YOU SATURDAY!!!! GOOD LUCK!!! 🍀
family and friends are welcome to attend, so please don’t be shy about asking them. Share the fun!!

Wolves are getting ready for Spring with hiking and camping preparedness

Cub Scout Six Essentials Over the past two weeks, wolves have worked on various required and elective adventures related to hiking, camping and being prepared.  Our program is designed to teach safety, as represented by the buddy system, what to do in an emergency, how to handle different weather conditions and natural disasters, signaling for help, what items to have on hand, and more.  We also learned about the outdoor code and general principles on how to treat the land and wildlife.  Our cubs built first aid kits and learned a new knot.   All in all, this is all prep for the fun hiking and camping activities that we have scheduled for the warmer days ahead.  The best part is: these skills are not only useful for hiking and camping – they are life skills that can and should be applied to any outing, school trip, vacations and experiences.  So, parents, we encourage you to review our six essentials and other preparedness measures with your child at every opportunity.  Really all it requires is common sense and repetition on your part.  All of our guidelines and lists may be found on the BSA website, on scoutbook and in the wolf manual! So, just remember  – outings are fun, but a lot more so when we know our child is safe and prepared!

Scout Sunday, Pancake Breakfast, and Award Ceremony

Scout Sunday 2020This Sunday, February 9th, is Scout Sunday. A day that the Boy Scouts of America sets aside to recognize the contributions of young people and adults in Scouting. It is a day that all of our scouting units come together and represent our units, and scouting, to the congregation of Saints United Lutheran Church.  As our chartered organization, it allows the congregation to see that the program which they support is alive and flourishing. All units, the pack, the troops, and the crew will be in attendance.

Immediately following service we are hosting a free pancake breakfast/brunch for the congregation as well as the scouts who attended the service, along with their immediate family members, as a way of saying thank you for all of their support. This will give an opportunity for the congregation to meet some of the scouts, scout families, as well as a way for the scout units to thank the congregation for their support over the years.

Finally, Pack 1776 will be holding a pack meeting after the pancake breakfast where we will hold a bobcat ceremony for those who recently joined as well as award the scouts what they have recently earned.

We ask that all scouts arrive by 9:15 AM, and that the scouts be in uniform. Newer scouts who do not yet have a uniform should wear something nice.

For those who cannot attend the service but wish to attend the pancake breakfast, we are requesting a donation of $5 per person. [edit: Yes, this is all you can eat.]
